About me
Hello! My name is Richard 👋
I’m from New Zealand, and a new arrival in London. I’m living here with my partner, Courtney.
I’m an 🗺️ explorer, ☕️ coffee nerd, and ⚽️ footballer. I love travelling and exploring new places, and admiring the beauty of nature. Most recently I travelled across Europe from Berlin to Lisbon, taking in the sights and scenery in the Austrian Alps, French Pyrenees, Portuguese Azores, and everything in between!
You’ll also catch me spending my weekends playing marathon board games like Terraforming Mars and Twilight Imperium (my first play-through was 10 hours!), trying out new RPGs, or watching Arsenal play in the English Premier League.
Favourite Movies
- Inception
- Interstellar
- Timelapse of the Future: A Journey to the End of Time (what will the universe look like in 1 trillion years?)
- What We Do in the Shadows (class kiwi humour)
Favourite Books
- Atomic Habits (James Clear)
- How to Win Friends and Influence People (Dale Carnegie)
- Meditations (Marcus Aurelius)
- Ottolenghi cookbooks
Favourite Music
My taste in music constantly shifts, but I find myself gravitating around electronic music. I’ve always liked piano too, but I wouldn’t call myself a classicist! I’m starting to learn the piano this year. Most of my favourite artists have appeared on Tiny Desk concerts, a few of them are linked below amongst other great live sets.

Mac Miller: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert
Watch Mac Miller play "Small Worlds", "What's the Use? (Feat. Thundercat)" and "2009" at the Tiny Desk. Did you know you can watch new Tiny Desk Concerts on npr.org ONE WEEK before they go up on YouTube? Click here: https://www.npr.org/tinydesk Follow NPR Music: Twitter: https://twitter.com/nprmusic Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nprmusic Aug. 6, 2018 | Bobby Carter -- There was a shift in Mac Miller's boisterous demeanor as he started the third of his three-song Tiny Desk set. It's the first time he's performed tracks from his new album, Swimming, in front of an audience. On "2009," he rubbed his chin with clinched eyes, looking like a young man who's beginning to crack the code. Backed by a piano loop and a string quartet, he reflected on his journey's peaks and valleys thus far. I ain't asking why no more I know I'll take it if it's mine I don't stay inside the lines It ain't 2009 no more Yeah, I know what's behind that door With nearly a decade under his belt at 26 years old, these words ring like an artist twice his age. We were introduced to Mac Miller via 2011's XXL Freshman Class, which featured a special crop of MCs such as Kendrick Lamar, Meek Mill and YG, all of whom are now considered in the upper echelon of hip-hop. After his big splash, he's been able to find a groove and consistently release quality rap records, ultimately keeping his name in the conversation with the other young greats. His 2011 album, Blue Slide Park, reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200, the first independently distributed debut album to do so since 1995's Dogg Food by Tha Dogg Pound. These consecutive triumphs amassed plenty of fame, fortune and insurmountable obstacles, causing a stumble here and there. Throughout the years, however, Mac has brushed himself off and put it in the music. For this performance, Mac Miller invited frequent collaborator Thundercat, who graced the Tiny Desk last year and will join Mac on tour this fall. Thundercat put on a dazzling shaker routine and played the deep centerpiece bass line on "What's The Use?" These Swimming iterations don't veer far away from the recorded versions, but here, his lyrics seem easier to interpret under live instrumentation. Set List "Small Worlds" "What's the Use? (Feat. Thundercat)" "2009" Musicians Mac Miller (Vocals), Thundercat (Bass), Justus West (Guitar), Klynik (Keys), Joe Cleveland (Bass), Kendall Lewis (Drums), Robin Fay-Massie (Violin), YaShauna Swan (2nd Violin), Lelia Walker (Viola), Melanie Hsu (Cello) Credits Producers: Bobby Carter, Morgan Noelle Smith; Creative Director: Bob Boilen; Audio Engineer: Josh Rogosin; Videographers: Morgan Noelle Smith, CJ Riculan, Beck Harlan, Khun Minn Ohn; Production Assistants: Catherine Zhang, Téa Mottolese; Photo: Eslah Attar/NPR. 0:00 Introduction 0:16 Mac Miller Small Worlds 5:44 Mac Miller feat. Vincent (FKJ): − Well, there was a lot less pressure, less expectations, − I didn’t see the reaction of the people in front of me that I usually interpret in a good or a bad way, sometimes I do interpret their reaction the right way but sometimes it completely wrong, in the end it’s all in my head but here there’s no audience so I’m by myself, I’m a bit like in my room except that have something incredible in front of me so it was easier to adventure myself in unknown territories… Derek (Cercle): − You lost yourself in your music tonight? Vincent (FKJ): − I was Lost Derek (Cercle): − It was really incredible. − There are a lot of people that have been asking questions online but I will start with one which I believe was asked by Emero: How were you inspired by Bolivia and this specific location ? Vincent (FKJ): − Well exactly, the inspiration came from the location. − Here I didn’t want the location to be just a background to my music but my music to be the soundtrack of the location. − That’s why I didn’t play many of my songs, I played a few that I thought worked well with this location but for the rest I was just looking around and being inspired by this place, by the nature around Derek (Cercle): − It’s true that I heard many tunes that I didn’t know so there were a lot of unreleased. Vincent (FKJ): − It wasn’t even unreleased. Derek (Cercle): − They were never released. Vincent (FKJ): − Yeah, they were not unreleased, probably will never be released Derek (Cercle): − Well we were privileged to hear them. Derek (Cercle): − Often the themes that we find in your tracks are the skyline and the notion of going home: Why those two themes? What inspires you in those themes? Vincent (FKJ): − The skyline is a metaphor for trying to reach your goals in life, make your dreams come true − And go back home is really about travelling − The track I don’t want to go back home that I played; I played because it made sense here, I really didn’t want to go back home, I just wanted to keep traveling here − go back home references the fact that I’m constantly traveling and that I feel good traveling Derek (Cercle): − Ok, I think we’re going to end the interview now with the mystery box which is a little gift that we are going to offer you. It’s a tradition but with all the emotions I forgot to take it with me, so someone is running to bring it − As Aurelien arrives I wanted to thank you for this incredible live Vincent (FKJ): − Thank you for organizing all of this Derek (Cercle): − I also wanted to thank all the technical team, I think there were around 19 people involved who are really incredible people that worked really hard to prepare this show. So, a huge thank you to them because there wouldn’t have been a show without them, thank you − And here is the gift, that we offer you with a strong wind. It was made by a local shop, Lam, and is 100% Alpaga Vincent (FKJ): − I’m going to put it right away because I’m freezing. − Thank you very much guys, I had a wonderful time. I will listen to it tomorrow because I don’t know how the result sounded Derek (Cercle): − It was beautiful − Thank you, you really honored this location − Thank you to our partners whose names will appear on the screen and in the credits − Thank you for being so many of you following us as always and see you in two weeks

Sampha: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert
Bobby Carter | March 21, 2017 — "There's nothing new under the sun / It's never what you do, but how it's done," Nas rapped on "No Idea's Original." Such is the case with the South London singer, songwriter and producer Sampha. His originality lies in delivery and tone, which is why he's been summoned by some of hip-hop and R&B's biggest names years before the release of his first album. (Kanye's "Saint Pablo" and Drake's "Too Much," for example, could have lacked emotional value without Sampha's contributions.) Sampha's music is more feel everything than feel good, which is why his fans hold him so close to their hearts. The vulnerability on his debut, Process, isn't hard to dissect, but can be downright agonizing to digest; his immediate family has been riddled with disease and ailments, with both his parents succumbing to cancer. Process finds Sampha interpreting this complicated emotional prism — and confronting his own mortality through it. Sampha stopped by the NPR offices to perform 3 tracks from Process. The result is a Tiny Desk Concert as intimate as it gets (and that's saying something). It's just him, a piano and these heart-wrenching songs that we reckon double as coping mechanisms. Process is available now: iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/process/id1138217713 Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Process-Sampha/dp/B01M5JVNGR Set List "Plastic 100°C" "(No One Knows Me) Like the Piano" "Blood On Me" Musicians Sampha (vocals, keys) Credits Producers: Bob Boilen, Bobby Carter, Niki Walker; Audio Engineer: Josh Rogosin; Videographers: Niki Walker, Morgan Noelle Smith; Editor: Morgan Noelle Smith; Production Assistant: A Noah Harrison; Photo: Claire Harbage/NPR. Ludovico Einaudi - Undiscovered Order now: https://Einaudi.lnk.to/UndiscoveredVD Join the official mailing list: https://Einaudi.lnk.to/YTMailingList The new collection from ground-breaking composer and pianist Ludovico Einaudi, ‘Einaudi Undiscovered’ is out now. A selection of rarities, hidden gems and unreleased tracks handpicked by Einaudi himself from his 25-year career. “Every time I listen to my albums, I realise that each contains one or more highlights that have captured the attention of the listener more than others have. Sometimes, beyond my intentions, some pieces become all-time favourites, while the rest live in the shadows. I have selected songs from different albums and film scores that have been kept more hidden than others, hoping to reveal some of the pieces that I consider as an important part of my repertoire. For me it was nice to look back, brush up my memories, being surprised and somehow rediscover myself, and compose a new necklace made of stones of my past” - Ludovico Einaudi Follow Ludovico Einaudi: https://www.facebook.com/ludovicoeinaudi/ https://www.instagram.com/ludovico_einaudi http://www.ludovicoeinaudi.com Music video by Ludovico Einaudi performing Live from The Steve Jobs Theater, California / 2019.
